Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take to get a skip?

Typically next day or sometimes same day depending on the location and when you order it. If a council permit is required we would need advance notification. as this process can take up to 7 days. The amount of time required to arrange a permit can vary depending on the local council.

Where can the skips be positioned?

We will place your skip in the most convenient location which might be your driveway, frontage or within the property boundaries. If we need to place the skip on the carriageway or grass verge you will need a council permit, a marked skip, lights and cones which we can organise for you.

Please inform us if you cannot place the skip on private land and we will organise a permit for you. The process typically takes 7 days.

As an alternative we may be able to organise a wait and load service

Do I need a council permit?

Permits are required by most local councils for skips that need to be placed on public land, including footpaths, grassed areas, and the highway. In most cases we will be able to arrange a permit for you.

How long does a permit last for?

Permits are typically arranged for 14 days, extensions must be applied for in advance and are subject to additional costs.

What size skip would I need?

We offer a range of skip sizes from 2 cubic yards through to 40 cubic yards, the following skip sizes are the most popular :

  • 2 cu yd (Mini Skip)
  • 4 cu yd (Midi Skip)
  • 6 cu yd (Traditional Builders Skip)
  • 8 cu yd (Large Builders Skip)
  • 12 cu yd (Large Containers for Light Waste)
  • 16 cu yd (Large Containers for Light Waste)

Skips must be loaded level with the top sides, any skip overloaded will not be collected.

How long can I keep my skip for?

Our normal skip hire period is for 7 days but we regularly extend this duration to 14 days as a courtesy to our clients. Council permits initially are granted for 14 days. We require notification that the skip is ready for collection either by telephone or e-mail, a collection slot will then be booked.

We reserve the right to charge £1.00 per day rental for skips that are kept outside the above terms

How is my skip delivered?

Usually your skip will be delivered by an LGV Skip Lorry fitted with telescopic arms. We operate a 7.5 tonne non-hgv skip lorry for premises with restricted access.

Your driveway needs to be 2.4 metres wide for a normal 18-tonne Skip Lorry, please inform us of any access difficulties at the time of ordering. Please make sure that there is sufficient access to allow the delivery of your skip in and out safely. If you are unsure, please contact us and we can provide you with the approximate dimensions required.

What am I allowed to put in my skip?

Skips are for general waste, inert waste, wood, metal and builders waste. Strictly no hazardous waste is allowed; this includes paints, solvents, liquids or asbestos. Due to weight restrictions, heavy waste cannot be placed in the larger skips (12 yards and over).

Will my driveway be damaged by the skip?

Block paved and soft tarmac drives can be damaged when placing skips on them. Heavy skips, which require stabilizing equipment, may also potentially cause damage. All drivers will use load baring timber blocks to negate the risk of damage and we will take every care to prevent damage, please be aware however that once we leave the highway you agree to indemnify us for any damage that occurs whilst on your property.
